“Getting Health Journalism Right”
Original title (Turkish): “Sağlık Haberciliğine Doğru Bakış”
About
She turns the biology education she pursued to become a scientist into an advantage in health journalism. Because her approach to journalism is to do what has never been done before, she looks at life with a desire to discover. Turkey’s first health blogger, Öz consulted on setting up and managing the Ministry of Health’s social media accounts. She works as Media and Communication Coordinator on various EU projects. She prepared and presented a radio program on TRT and served as editor-in-chief of health news websites. She is the Pembe Nar health columnist for Milliyet newspaper, Publishing Editor of Sağlık ve İnsan magazine, and Media and Communication Coordinator of the Competitive Sectors Programme. Her books Kokuyla Keşfet (Discover by Scent) and Sağlık Haberlerine Farklı Bakış (A Different Look at Health News) are the first of their kind in Turkey. She wrote chapters in the books Sağlık Okuryazarlığı (Health Literacy) and Beynimiz Nasıl Çalışır? (How Does Our Brain Work?). Öz argues that health journalism must become a specialization. She continues to develop projects to raise people’s knowledge and awareness of health literacy in traditional and new media.
