    “Stories Behind the Camera”

Original title (Turkish): “Kamera Arkasındaki Hikayeler”

About

Born in 1975 in Urla, İzmir, Güray Ervin completed his education up to high school in İzmir. He started in journalism in 1988 as a darkroom technician at the İzmir bureau of Hürriyet newspaper. Ervin tells the story of how he got into journalism: “I’m one of those the profession calls ‘self-taught.’ In our profession, Istanbul is ‘the source.’ I wanted to work in Istanbul too. In 1998, a call that came when I least expected it made my dream come true and I moved to Istanbul.” After 12 years at Kanal D, he worked at 24 TV, Kanaltürk TV and Al Jazeera Türk, in that order. While at Kanaltürk TV, he was wounded when the vehicle he was in came under fire as he covered the war between Georgia and Russia. At Al Jazeera Türk, where he worked for 6 years, he produced video reports telling human stories. Reports such as “The Railway Watchman” and “The Man Who Collects Paper” were shared thousands of times on social media within a short time. In this way, the stories of real people touched everyone’s lives. Ervin, who currently works as a news cameraman at TRT World, has received numerous awards in the “News Footage” category, including the Turkish Journalists’ Association Achievement Awards. Ervin also holds a Permanent Press Card.
