Meet Faruk Göksu

Orkun Kadıoğlu

Who is Faruk Göksu?

First of all, hello again, TED(x) lovers! We said that as the event approached, our blog would become more active, just like our other social media accounts. We still think the same thing: Getting to know our speakers is important for understanding them, or rather, for understanding them correctly. Likewise, this way you may find yourself in their stories! Now it's the turn of Faruk Göksu, Co-Founder of Kentsel Strateji (Urban Strategy).

Urban planner (yes, you read that right: planner, not "plan-maker") A. Faruk Göksu provides consultancy to the public and private sectors, especially on urban transformation. Göksu was the manager of PORTAŞ A.Ş., which carried out the Portakal Çiçeği Valley Project, Turkey's first public-private partnership. Göksu acts as a consensus manager in bringing residents, municipalities and the private sector together on a project basis. He has also developed models and methods, especially for Anatolian cities, on innovative approaches such as Transfer of Development Rights, land consolidation, public participation and consensus-building, and he teaches urban transformation at university.

He is the founder of TAK Kadıköy, TAK Kartal, Vizyon Atölyesi (Vision Workshop) and Atölye Muğla Bir. In these workshops he produces projects on the future of cities, balancing theory and practice. The Yeşil Yol (Green Way), Yeşil Kuşak (Green Belt) and Kıyı-Köşe programs are important initiatives on the agenda, especially for improving quality of life and reducing urban risks.

See you in our next blog post. Stay TEDx!
